A simple range hood doesn't have to look plain. This Artisan Handmade Custom Copper Range Hood ATHC-27 shows how much can be achieved through proportion, shape, and material alone.
The upper portion maintains a straight, vertical profile before gradually transitioning outward into a soft, flowing curve. This change in direction gives the hood a distinctive silhouette without relying on elaborate trim or excessive decoration. Every part of the shape is formed by hand in our workshop, bringing the design from its clean upper lines to its gently flared lower section.
The antique copper finish adds another layer of character. Its varied tones give the surface depth and an appearance that feels different from a uniform metallic finish. Through hands-on metalworking and finishing, the copper retains the character of the material while complementing the metal hood cover's understated form.
As a handcrafted copper kitchen hood, it brings together simple geometry and the natural character of copper. It works particularly well in kitchens that feature natural wood, stone, and understated cabinetry, where the hood can introduce a distinctive material accent without overwhelming the space.

Wall Mount Range Hood Size Guide
Hood Width (A)
A wall-mounted range hood should be at least as wide as the cooktop. Common hood widths include 30, 36, 42 and 48 inches. When space allows, choosing a slightly wider hood can provide better coverage.
Hood Height (B)
Ceiling Height (C) − Rangetop Height (D) − Mounting Clearance (E) = Hood Height (B)
The distance from the cooking surface to the bottom of the hood should generally be 30–36 inches for optimal performance.
Example: Ceiling Height (108″) − Rangetop Height (36″) − Mounting Clearance (33″) = 39″ Hood Height.
Hood Depth (F)
Wall-mounted range hoods typically measure 22–24 inches deep, depending on the depth of the cooking surface and the kitchen layout.
Island Mount Range Hood Size Guide
Hood Width (A)
For an island-mounted range hood, the hood should be 3–6 inches wider than the cooking surface to provide better coverage and capture smoke from all sides.
Hood Height (B)
Ceiling Height (C) − Rangetop Height (D) − Mounting Clearance (E) = Hood Height (B)
The distance from the cooking surface to the bottom of the hood should generally be 30–36 inches for optimal performance.
Example: Ceiling Height (108″) − Rangetop Height (36″) − Mounting Clearance (33″) = 39″ Hood Height.
Hood Depth (F)
Island range hoods typically measure 26–27 inches deep to provide sufficient coverage in an open kitchen layout.
Range Hood Ventilation Guide
Artisan Vent Hood offers three range hood ventilation options: an internal motor, a ductless conversion and a remote blower. Each system is designed for a different kitchen layout, installation requirement and noise preference.
1. Internal Motor
The motor is installed inside the range hood and exhausts cooking air outdoors through ductwork.
An internal motor, also called an internal blower, is the most common ventilation option for residential range hoods. The blower is housed inside the hood insert, where it pulls smoke, grease, heat and odors through the filters before directing the air outside.
Best for:
-Kitchens with an existing exterior duct
-New construction and kitchen remodeling projects
-Homeowners who want strong, dependable ventilation
-Projects that require a simple, integrated blower system
2. Remote Blower
The motor is installed away from the range hood, typically in the attic or another approved location along the duct route.A remote blower separates the motor from the range hood insert. Smoke, grease and cooking odors are still captured at the hood and exhausted outdoors, but the blower motor operates farther away from the cooking area. Moving the motor away from the hood can reduce the motor noise heard directly above the range. Air movement through the filters and ductwork will still be audible.
Best for:
-Luxury kitchens and open-concept floor plans
-Homeowners who want a quieter cooking area
-Kitchens with suitable attic or remote installation space
-Custom construction projects where the ventilation system can be planned in advance
3. Ductless Conversion
Filtered air is recirculated back into the kitchen without an exterior duct.
A ductless range hood, also known as a recirculating range hood, is designed for kitchens where venting through a wall or roof is not possible. Instead of exhausting air outdoors, the system pulls cooking air through grease filters and activated charcoal filters. The filtered air is then returned to the kitchen through ventilation openings in the hood.
Best for:
-Kitchens where exterior ductwork cannot be installed
-Interior kitchen walls without roof or wall access
-Renovations with structural ducting limitations
Internal Motor vs. Ductless vs. Remote Blower
| Feature | Internal Motor | Ductless Conversion | Remote Blower |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vents air outdoors | Yes | No | Yes |
| Motor location | Inside the hood | Inside the hood | Attic or approved remote location |
| Exterior duct required | Yes | No | Yes |
| Removes cooking heat and moisture | Yes | Limited | Yes |
| Reduces odors | Yes | Yes, through charcoal filters | Yes |
| Motor noise at the hood | Standard | Standard | Lower |
| Installation complexity | Standard | Lower | Higher |
| Best application | Most residential kitchens | Kitchens without duct access | Quiet, high-end kitchens |
How Much CFM Does a Range Hood Need?
Artisan Vent Hood systems are commonly paired as follows:
| Range Hood Width | Typical Blower Capacity |
|---|---|
| 30″–36″ | 610 CFM |
| 42″–48″ | 1150 CFM |
| 54″–60″ | 1260 CFM |
These are general product pairings rather than universal requirements. The final blower should be selected according to the cooking equipment, hood design, duct system and applicable local code.

A little routine care goes a long way toward keeping your Artisan Vent Hood looking its best. Since cleaning needs vary by metal and finish, follow the instructions below for your specific custom range hood.
Caring for a Copper Range Hood
Our copper range hoods are handcrafted from durable 16-gauge copper and finished with a clear protective coating. Gentle cleaning will help preserve the color and surface finish.
Routine Cleaning
For everyday care, dampen a soft cotton cloth with warm water and a mild, non-acidic soap. Gently wipe the surface to remove dust, grease, and cooking residue.
Choose a pH-neutral cleaner whenever possible. Strong dishwashing liquids, abrasive cleaning products, and aggressive scrubbing may affect the protective finish.
Removing Buildup
For heavier residue or occasional disinfecting, use a diluted household cleaner that is both non-corrosive and non-abrasive.
Apply the cleaner with a soft cloth and avoid using anything that could scratch the copper or damage its clear coating.
Drying the Surface
After cleaning—or whenever moisture collects on the hood—wipe the copper with a clean, soft towel. Drying the surface helps reduce water marks and streaking.
Wax Protection
A light coat of natural beeswax or a similar protective wax may be applied every three to six months, depending on how frequently the hood is used.
Spread a thin, even layer over the surface, then gently buff it with a clean, non-abrasive cloth.
Products to Avoid
Do not clean the copper with:
-Ammonia-based products
-Abrasive powders or liquids
-Rough sponges or scrubbing pads
-Strong acidic cleaners
These products can weaken the protective coating and cause the finish to lose its original appearance over time.
Caring for Brass Range Hoods and Stainless Steel Range Hoods
Brass and stainless steel are durable materials that require relatively simple upkeep. Regular dusting, gentle washing, and thorough drying will help keep the hood clean and attractive.
Remove Surface Dust
Use a clean microfiber cloth to gently remove dust. On stainless steel surfaces, always move the cloth in the same direction as the visible grain.
Wash Away Everyday Residue
Use warm water with a small amount of mild soap. Apply the solution with a soft cloth and gently wipe away grease, fingerprints, and normal kitchen buildup.
After cleaning, dry the entire surface with a clean cloth to help prevent water spots and streaks.
Cleaning Grease From Stainless Steel
When regular soap and water are not enough, use a cleaner or degreaser specifically made for stainless steel.
Apply the product with a soft cloth and wipe in the direction of the metal grain. For more stubborn marks, use a dedicated stainless steel cleaner, then rinse the area and dry it completely.
Simple Care Reminders
To protect the appearance of your range hood:
-Use only soft cotton or microfiber cloths.
-Choose gentle, non-abrasive cleaning products.
-Dry the metal after cleaning.
-Follow the direction of the grain when wiping stainless steel.
-Avoid harsh chemicals and rough cleaning tools.
Consistent, gentle maintenance is the best way to preserve the handcrafted finish of your Artisan Vent Hood.
